Physical description: Luthias's once black hair faded to salt and pepper before the siege and turned entirely gray not long after. It is more white than gray now. Luthias was the second tallest of his brothers, only after Lucian. Though past his prime, Luthias has managed to maintain an admirable physique. Though darkened and aged, Luthias's face is still handsome, and immediately likeable.

Character history:

When the first generation was young, Luthias was the favored son of his father, Cian. No one disdained Cian’s favoritism because Luthias was largely regarded as everyone’s favorite. The other brothers were not disliked, but Luthias had a naturally sunny disposition that caused adoration among the most aloof of high elves.

Luthias was a quick wit and talented, and he bore his many gifts with modesty. The other asset that won Luthias hearts was his complete lack of ambition. It was quite clear from the beginning that he was happy Lucian was destined to be leader and not him. Although Luthias preferred a simple life, he never shirked at duty and was one of the first to rise to the occasion. He trained with Lucian as a swordsman.

Luthias married before Lucian – an abnormality not often seen in noble houses. He was lucky enough to fall in love with Yalae, a young elf from a suitable family and with equally low ambition. The two were very happy.

They raised their two children, Iluthias and Catalia, blessedly free from family squabbles and politics. While Lucian and Luthias were close, over the years Lucian began to resent him for his happy marriage and freedom. Lucian’s loveless marriage never produced an heir, a sad fact that troubled him increasingly in the years before Arthas’ siege.

The children of the second generation fondly remember Luthias as a loving uncle. He took time to cherish a peaceful life, free from study or responsiblity, a side of life that many blood elf children never see. He had a great gift for story telling and even before his madness, he possessed an offbeat turn of phrase that disarmed strangers and charmed loved ones.

During Arthas’ siege of Quel’Thalas, Lucian and Luthias fought valiantly to defend the sunwell. Despite their efforts, the onslaught of Arthas’ army made it clear to the defenders that their defeat was imminent. Lucian ordered Luthias to fall back with the remaining members of Suncrown to avoid route that would soon follow Arthas’ victory and in the ensuing chaos. Lucian died defending the Sunwell.

Luthias along with the combat-able members of Suncrown assisted the remaining guard in a last stand to give more time for the population of Quel’Thalas to flee from the scourge. In this battle, when the guard was split into two parts, Luthias made the fatal decision to hold his position and wait for trailing reinforcements from the magi before advancing. Regrettably, his son Iluthias was lost to him as a consequence. He would learn the next day that Yalae had also perished.

Out of grief, in the following months, Luthias volunteered to become a Blood Knight by siphoning the powers of the captured Naaru. It is not clear if it was the necromantic magic used by Arthas’ army, the guilt he suffered at abandoning the sunwell, his grief at losing his beloved wife and so many others, or the siphoning of the Naaru’s power that drove Luthias mad. Regardless of the cause, he soon became more of a figurehead than patriarch of Suncrown.

Personality:

It has often been said by his loved ones that Luthias has an excess of personality. Even before his madness, Luthias seemed possessed of endless energy, often engaging the defenseless in conversations that lasted many hours before they became aware (from the soreness in their cheeks from laughing). His passion for nearly everything that crossed his path has made Luthias something of a jack of all trades, knowing a little something about everything. Luthias's first love has always been for his family, preferring to spend his time at idle domestic affairs than anything. He is tranquil and casual in his demeanor and most noticeably: patient. There are few alive who can claim to have ever seen Luthias hurry for anything.
